Project #1 - Analysis of Product and Packaging! (15%)
There are a number of different types of products and packaging! If you search for something like package designs for products in Google, you will see a number of examples, such as:
- juice boxes in the shape of the fruit the juice comes from
- milk cartons shaped like cows
- cigarette packages in the shape of coffins
- honey jars in the shape of bee hives
For this project, you are to choose a creative product and package design that already exists and analyze it based on the following:
- Does the packaging design emphasize the product? (Can you tell what the product is by looking at the packaging?)
- What are the strengths and weaknesses of the product itself?
- What are the strengths and weaknesses of the packaging of the product?
- How useful is the product? (Does the product do what it is supposed to do?)
- Is the product aesthetically pleasing? (Is the product eye-catching?)
- Is the packaging aesthetically pleasing? (Is the package eye-catching?)
- Can you identify any cultural influences in the product or its packaging?
- Is there anything you would change about the product?
- What is your overall opinion about the product and its packaging?
You should create a PowerPoint presentation to present your information. Your presentation should include pictures of the product, its packaging, your analysis of the product and its package design (your answers to the questions listed above!), and a list of citations where you got any pictures or other information you may have used in your presentation.
You will be given 3 class periods to work on this project. Completed projects are due Monday, April 15, 2013!
Your work will be assessed based on the following rubric:
- juice boxes in the shape of the fruit the juice comes from
- milk cartons shaped like cows
- cigarette packages in the shape of coffins
- honey jars in the shape of bee hives
